Only having 3 days in this area, we decided to take guided hiking and mountain biking tours. Also the area was flooded so local guides could help us out to find alternative routes. The Bogor region is about 50kms South of Jakarta, and the area between Bogor and Bandung contains a high diversity of mountain peaks, volcanic areas, waterfalls and great sceneries, so much more to explore than what we did here in the few days we had. Also note that we were here during Ramadan, what is not an ideal period to visit the area, as a lot of places were closed and guides are more difficult to find. We first did a trekking with a local guide to Puncak Silala, a 770m mountain top, crossing bamboo forest and plantations through very steep uphill climbs, returning back by the Curug Cinbingbin Waterfall. The plan was to hike to Paniisan Hill, but due to flooding this area was not possible to reach. Anyhow, a lot of hikes are to be found on the https://gotrekkingsentul.com/ website and a local guide can be booked there. The second day we mountain biked with a local guide in the Bogor area. Multiple routes can be booked on https://www.bogormountainbiking.com/ but also here we were limited because of the floodings. Our aim was to reach Puncak but also that trip was not possible. Anyhow, many trails were muddy (and muddy’’ means also 50cms of depth) and many parts were very difficult due to rocks and mud. Uphill was very often relatively impossible, so do not expect European-style mountain bike trails. The third day a day-trip to Tangkuban Perahu volcano craters was done in the Bandung area. Here you can walk to the edge of the craters, view hot water springs and boiling mud.
